J. Bruce Gibbens

Bruce grew up in Cando and is a 4th generation farmer in Towner County.  He graduated from NDSU with a B.A. in Political Science.  He then graduated from UND School of Law and returned to Cando where he opened Gibbens Law Office in 1983.  Bruce currently serves as the City Attorney for Cando and Rolette, as counsel for First State Bank of Cando, Towner County Medical Center, Northern Plains Electric Cooperative, Devils Lake Basin Joint Water Resource Board, and serves on the Inquiry Committee Northeast.  He enjoys hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and finding ways to help his grandson, Shepard, get into trouble.

Nathan Gibbens

Nathan grew up in Cando and is a 5th generation farmer in Towner County.  He graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in American Studies.  He then graduated from UND School of Law, Order of the Coif, and returned to Cando in 2012.  Nathan currently serves as the City Attorney for Rolla.  He enjoys hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, skiing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Michelle, and their son, Shepard.

Michelle grew up in Bottineau and Minot.  She graduated from New York University with a B.A. in Politics.  She then graduated from UND School of Law, cum laude, and moved to Cando in 2012.  She is the second person in North Dakota to receive the designation of National Title Professional from the American Land Title Association.  Michelle currently serves as the President of the North Dakota Land Title Association, and is a director on the Cando Golf Club Board, the Towner County Medical Center Board, and the North Star Schools School Board.  She enjoys golfing, baking, traveling, hunting, and spending time with her husband, Nathan, and their son, Shepard.

Angela M. Freund
Office Manager at Gibbens Law Office

Angie grew up in Egeland.  She graduated from Lake Region State College with a degree in office management and legal studies, and began working for Gibbens Law Office in 1987.  She enjoys spending time with her two kids and shuttling them around to their many activities.

Rebecca F. Leonard
Licensed Abstracter at Rolette County Abstract

Becky grew up in Walhalla and St. John and lives on a 5th generation family farm near the International Peace Garden.  She began working at Rolette County Abstract in 1982, became a licensed abstracter in 1989, purchased the company in 1990, and continued to own and operate it until she sold it to Nathan and Michelle at the end of 2013.  She enjoys history, historic preservation and restoration, genealogy, the arts and humanities, volunteering for local nonprofits, and spending time with family: her husband, Larry, grown children, Dr. Larissa Leonard, Pharm-D, and William and Neon Leonard, and her many animals.

Haylee Senger
Legal Assistant at Gibbens Law Office

Haylee grew up in Grafton and Cando. She started  working at Gibbens Law Office in 2015. She received her Aesthetics License from The Salon Professional Academy Fargo in 2018. She enjoys being outdoors in the snow or sunshine (especially to fish). She also likes to bowl and travel, but her favorite thing to do is to spend time with her daughter, Paisley.

Patricia Stewart
Licensed Abstracter at Cavalier County Abstract

Patricia began work as an abstracter in 1990 at McHugh Abstract Company in Langdon and became a licensed abstracter in 1991.  She owned and operated McHugh Abstract Company until it was sold on January 1, 2021 to Nathan and Michelle.  She loves to travel with her husband, spend time with her family and four grandchildren, cook (and eat), garden, read, and bicycle.

Kelli Graber
Legal Secretary at Gibbens Law Office

Kelli grew up in Bisbee and graduated from Bismarck State College in 2019 with a degree in Medical Administrative Assistant. She enjoys game nights with family and friends, and being outside, especially in the summer out at the lake.  Her favorite way to spend her time is with her partner, Riley, and both of their families.

Laura Borstad-Dease
Legal Secretary at Gibbens Law Office

Laura grew up in Starkweather and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1992 with a degree in Business Administration.  She lives on a farm near Munich where she helps her husband with the farming operation and where their three children (Kayla, Brenna, and Isak) were raised.  She also owns a photography business.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends (especially at their lake home in the summer), cooking, crafting, gardening, digital scrapbooking, and going to her son’s hockey games in the winter.
